As a
collagist, I initially began photographing structures with a very
frontal, balanced perspective, in order to use these images in my
architectural reconstructions and scenarios. Eventually i realized i
loved viewing and capturing the structures in this straightforward way,
with a face-to-face, honest gaze, and began to appreciate these
photographs as stand-alone images. They were rather severe, but i felt a
great and unexplainable tenderness for them.
imaginalConstructs are most always a continuation or variation of my obsession with
structures as subject. Drawn to the historical and decrepit,
although the urbanized and cheerfully-colored can also be fascinating, I
have learned to accept the interference of modern devices
(utility wires, trash bins, parked cars, flags) in my view. I began to incorporate elements of history and fantasy into the image collages to create an otherworldly
environment reflecting my personal belief that the mundane can become
magical with the right frame of mind.
imaginalConstructs are composed (digitally or manually) of self-made images of beloved and curious structures which are transformed and placed into highly decorative environments (landscapes and villages) populated with thrilling creatures and unexpected elements. These scenarios may be created in a series of 2 or more similar pieces. Currently i am not making new pieces in this vein, but concentrating on painting.
